The story

Food for the future

World Food Day is on 16 October. The 2026 theme is "Innovate today. Nourish tomorrow." The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, or FAO, leads the campaign.

Innovation means using a new idea or a new way of working. For example, a farmer might find a better way to use water. New ideas can work with knowledge that families have shared for many years.

More than a full plate

The campaign wants everyone to have enough food that is varied, safe and good for them. It also asks people to care for the planet and its resources.

A better food future needs more than growing enough food. People must also be able to get it. Farmers, businesses, governments and communities all have a part to play, from producing food to helping it reach the people who need it.
