The story
The work after making a brick
A toy brick is small, but the operation that delivers it is enormous. On 24 September 2026, the LEGO Group announced plans to invest more than US $400 million in expanding its Monterrey factory in Mexico.
The company says the project will add a packing hall and an automated warehouse. It expects 62,000 square metres of additional building space, a 35% increase in production capacity and about 1,300 extra jobs through 2029.
A plan with a timetable
Construction is expected to start in early 2027 and finish by 2029. Those dates and job numbers are company expectations, rather than completed results. LEGO says this project is separate from an earlier packing and warehousing expansion completed in 2026.
The announcement offers a useful view of manufacturing: making the object is only one step. Products also need packing, storage and distribution. Expanding those stages can help a factory handle more output. Whether this particular investment meets its targets will become clearer as the work progresses.
